Back in 2015 I was lost. I was getting paid $34,000/year working for a fortune 500 company in Los Angeles and according to company policy, I was only allowed a maximum raise of 10% per year.

This didn't sit well with me so I ended up doing what most 25 year olds do when they feel stuck...

I consumed every piece of content I could find about going from 'rags to riches', and quickly realized that the only way out of the corporate rat race for me would be to build an online business.

That sent me on a looooooong journey.

But I was eager to get started!

I began with 0 technical skills and hired a software developer to build me a website called playlistemails.com.

It cost $800 to hire the developer on Upwork to build the site and I ended up making my first sale in the first hour of going live.

Unfortunately my employer didn't love the idea of me creating the Yellow Pages for musicians (that was the concept) so they asked me to shut it down🤦 - and I did.

But I was addicted...

That first sale ignited a fire in me.

And I went back to the drawing board ready for my next side hustle...

The next one I came up with was vocalpresets.com.

I stumbled upon the idea while doing extensive market research on Reddit and discovering people P2P trading "Vocal Presets" (they're like lightroom presets for musicians).

I saw vocalpresets.com - an exact keyword match - was available and snatched it up!

Here's the thing though...

The overarching insight from the YouTube videos I watched was that there's 2 sides to success; being skilled and being lucky. In order to maximize the skill side (since that's the only part I had control over), I vowed with each business I built I would learn a new skill so that if the business failed, I would walkaway smarter than I was before.

With vocalpresets.com, I decided to learn SEO. You can see below - I learned it and smashed the shit out of it!

40,000 organic visits from Google in the last 12 months!!😳

I got the business profitable in 3 months and built the vocalpresets.com email newsletter to 55,000 subscribers.

This led to the business getting bought💰💸

Since then i've gone deep learning all the nuances of SEO, learned how to code websites from scratch, and built TONS of websites. I started Exploding Ideas as a research business so that I can find new niches to build businesses in.

Interestingly enough, when I started publishing the newsletter, business owners started reaching out to me to help them with their businesses.

I kept getting asked to productize the skills that I used on my own sites.
